Tethering allows you to connect to the internet while out and about by turning your mobile phone into a WiFi hotspot that your laptop or iPad can connect to. If you are going to tether your phone to a laptop or iPad a lot, follow through to the end of this artilce to add the Mobile Hotspot shortcut to your top menu.
To configure the hotspot for the first time, go to Settings then Connections
Then choose Mobile hotspot and tethering
Choose Mobile Hotspot
In the Mobile hotspot settings, it is suggested you rename the hotspot from the default "AndroidAP". Tap More (three vertical dots) in the top right, then Configure mobile hotspot. Here you can change the Network (hotspot) name.
After doing this, the hotspot name and password will be listed. Turn on the hotspot by tapping the slide toggle at the top.
That's it, the hotspot is active, and you can connect to it like any other WiFi network. Use the password that is listed on your phone's Mobile Hotspot screen
NOTE:It is suggested you connect your iPad or laptop to this network at least once before you use it in the field, as it will mean your iPad or laptop will remember the network, and therefore connect faster :)
***Remember to turn this off from the phone every time you finish using it***
It's a Good Idea™ to set your tethering as a metered connection so Windows doesn't download updates while you're on the go. Follow this article to change your tethering to a metered connection.
Setup Tethering as a Metered Connection
Add the Hotspot Icon to the drop down menu
Drag down from the top of the screen and notice there are 5 quick setting toggles available here, and you are also able to scroll to the right and find 5 other settings, these 10 setting toggles are called the quick settings panel. Press the settings cog in the top right and choose Button Order.
Long hold the Mobile hotspot icon to move it, and move it to a location you would like.
Now you can quickly turn on the Mobile hotspot quickly from the top pull down menu.

Hi there, I was shown by my colleague how to do this and it worked at the office, however it didn't recognise my phone when out and said it only recognised a Huawei mobile which mine isn't? Any suggestions?
Many thanks,
Sharleen.
