When preparing for a new build on your laptop there are a few things that you will want to do before this happens as not everything will be able to be pulled over.
What does a new build mean?
A new build is essentially a fresh install of all your programs such as Outlook, Word and, Teams to ensure we are all on the same software (Microsoft Windows). This makes managing devices easier and helps us to provide technical support to you.
For this to happen we are required to reset your device, this will mean that any settings that are not the default settings will be reverted.
What is not carried over?
Display settings (if different than default) for example if prefer your screen zoomed in/out this will need to be reset.
Specialty software requirements - If there are any specialty software requirements that you have requested from helpdesk e.g., Zoom, creative tools, or any other software that is specific to your role, get in touch with helpdesk so that we can add this in for you.
Downloads are not pulled over, if there are any files that you have downloaded that you need to access, move this into your OneDrive or SharePoint.
Desktop bookmarks - If you have any shortcuts saved to your desktop, make sure to save these in a doc or somewhere you can access after the change.
Synced SharePoint sites/workspaces - Synced SharePoint sites will not pull over to your new build, these can be resynced once your device is rebuilt.
How to prepare
Browser bookmarks - If you use Chrome as your browser and are not logged in you will need to make note of your current bookmarks or log in to be able to sync these. If you are using Edge (preferred browser) these will pull over automatically.
Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) - Check what authentication method you have set up as you will be required to reauthenticate when logging back in.
OneDrive - Save all documents to OneDrive - check that OneDrive is synced by clicking on the blue cloud in your taskbar, this will tell you if there are any errors. Here is how to fix these errors.
Taskbar - Make a note of what you have pinned in the taskbar.
Team workspace - If you haven't already, we recommend going into The Well and favoriting your team workspace so that its easy to access. This can be done on The Well home page in the top right widget where you can search for teams and use the start to favorite them.
What's new?
Printing:
Large sites will have access to Printix, this will automatically connect you to the printer when you are connected to the wifi, you will not need to release the document to print it. Once the new build is rolled out nationwide, we will be able to enable secure print.
Small sites (not on printix) will have access to an 'onsite' printer, to access the printer you will need to connect to the sites wifi.
Faster login - You should expect to see faster logins after the initial restart.
When you log in for the first time
When logging in for the first time you will need to enter in your email address and password, if you have forgotten your password you may need to reset your password. Once you are logged in you can start setting things up the way you want it. You can save commonly used tools to your taskbar such as teams, browser, and Outlook.
Open up your browser to go to The Well, here you can go to your teams SharePoint page, find documents and click on Sync for any folders you want to access easily from your file explorer.
If you notice any software that is no longer on your device that you need, or if you have any questions at all, please get in touch with helpdesk.
