How to turn your camera on/off

Use this guide to troubleshoot camera issues when joining an online meeting.

Depending on your laptop model, you may have a few different options available than the ones listed.

Check video status in Microsoft Teams

When you are in a call on Microsoft Teams, there is a camera button in the top right-hand corner. You will be able to click this to turn it on/off.

When there is a diagonal strike through the icon this means it is turned off. Click the icon to toggle it on.

Check your camera cover

At the top of your laptop screen, where the camera is, you may have a slider that you can push across to cover and uncover the camera.

If your camera video in a Teams call is on but showing as a black screen, you may just need to push the slider across to open the shutter.

Check for a camera button on your keyboard

Some models will have a camera button on the keyboard that you can press to either blur or turn your camera off. This can be found next to the power button and will look like the following.
