Choosing A Good Password

Follow

We're finally moving to non-expiring passwords! No more changing every 60 days, hurrah.

But with great power comes great responsibility - we need you to use better passwords*

Now, when people think of "better" passwords, often they think this means something like "P@s$13", which is hard to remember, but easy to break. The worst of both worlds!

So here are some suggestions for choosing a good password. You want to make it a good one that means something to you but isn’t easily guessed by someone that knows you. An easy way to get to the 10 character length is to combine two or three words such as three things you like to eat or do or listen to or… Some examples below:

  1. Blurcofeegolf
  2. MASHhappydays
  3. pogosteakandcheese
  4. etc…

You’ll find that by combining words you can quickly find yourself having a much longer password that is still just as fast to type and when it comes to passwords, the longer the better. Use the 10 character as an absolute minimum.

To change your password simply press Ctrl + Alt + Del and choose Change Password.

As a final point, use this password only for work - don't choose something you already use, or use this password elsewhere.

*Kudos to the people already doing so. Just sit back and smile knowingly!
