This guide will share tips on how you can stop your phone from creating a large bill when you are travelling overseas.
With the following simple settings and precautions you should be able to use your phone to send and receive emails from Wi-Fi locations and use your phone (as a phone) without coming home to a massive bill.
Step 1: Turn off Data Roaming
Step 2: Only use Wi-Fi for internet access including sending and receiving emails
Use the Hotel / Conference Centre / Airport Wi-Fi. If you’re somewhere that has Wi-Fi available then it is perfectly safe to use that. There should be instructions on how to connect at any location with Wi-Fi. You will not need to change any settings on your phone – you may just need to enter a password.
Step 3: Make and receive calls and texts as needed but beware
Texts are expensive and receiving a phone call is even more expensive. You should however be able to make and receive a small number of calls and texts without breaking the bank. Send an email to the helpdesk before you leave to have a roaming pack added (with the approval of your manager).
Roaming prices, help and support (including a roaming app) can be found on the Spark website HERE
