Tips for phone battery life

Today's Lithium-ion phone batteries need to be charged and used in a different way than those of mobiles gone past.  Did you know your phone batteries can get stressed out too?  Here's a few tips to ensure a long life from your mobile phone's battery.

Plug in your phone anytime you can

Today's phones are better with little boosts rather than one long drain and charge cycle.  A complete drain-and-charge cycle should only be done about once a month.  This recalibrates the phone so it knows how far it is from whoa to go.

Unplug it when it's fully charged

This wears out the chemicals within if kept on charge after it's full.

Try not to charge it to 100%

This can wear out the battery faster in the long run.  One idea is to keep the phone in between 40%-80%, trying not to let it drop below 20% or max out at 100%.

Stay cool

If you notice your phone gets hot while on charge, remove it from its case to keep it cool.  Excessive heat breaks down the battery's chemicals faster.  Remember to keep them out of the hot sun and enclosed cars, too!

Down the drain- watch out for these battery munchers

Screen brightness- Lighting up the screen is the number one drain on today's phones.  Trying to light up the night will rapidly zap the phone's power.  Dial it down a notch if you don't need to compete with the light in the room.

Bluetooth- if you're not using it, turn it off.  Otherwise it will continue to look for nearby friends.

No signal- your phone will tweet it's batteries out trying to find nearby towers.  If there's no reception around, flight mode will save your battery until it returns to civilisation.  The same is true if you're out and about but your phone is looking for wifi.  Turn off wifi if you're going to be out of the office for awhile.  Just remember to turn it on when you get back!

Buzz!  It takes a lot more battery to vibrate than to make a sound.  Turning off notifications or going sound only can extend the battery through the day.
