Jump Lists

I love them and I think you will as well. With the entire Windows taskbar operating like the little Quick Launch bar of old you now have these things called Jump Lists that let you access recent or commonly opened documents with two easy clicks. It's easier to demonstrate with pictures so read on to see why I think everyone should be using Jump Lists.

First, pin commonly opened programs to your Taskbar. Open the program (in this case Word) and then right click on the Taskbar icon and select Pin this program to taskbar.

Word will now always be available to you on your Taskbar and opening Word is as easy as left clicking on the icon. Jump Lists are accessed by right clicking on the icon and are created automatically for all of your recently opened documents - see my recently opened documents here.

Now that's quite good but you can also choose commonly opened documents to pin to these lists by right clicking the document in the list (either a recently opened document or the currently opened document) and choosing Pin to list.

Or just hovering over the document and clicking the Pin to this list option.

As you can see the document is now pinned to my jump list making it very easy for me to
open that document next time

You can always unpin any document from the list by choosing Unpin from this list.

And that's Jump Lists in a nutshell. They apply to almost every program so do some right clicking and discover how Jump Lists can make your work life a little bit easier.
