Exporting data from Power BI dashboards

Follow

It's easy to export data from Power BI to Microsoft Excel.

Most data visuals in Power BI allow you to export what you see.

Before you start:

Apply/remove filters so that just the data you want is showing.

Ask yourself - do you need to download this? If the data you're exporting will contain personal data, or sensitive data - it may be better off staying on-screen in Power BI.

Ready? here's how

1. Hover your mouse over the data you want.

2. Click the ellipses (the three dots) that appear at the top right.

3. Select 'Export data' option.

4. You'll usually want the 'Data with current layout' option. But 'Summarised data' might suit some occasions.

5. Click the Export button.

That's it - an Excel file should download containing that data, you can open it in Microsoft Excel.

The file will end up in your downloads folder, and can be saved somewhere else if you like.

Need more?

If you need more detailed data, or underlying data - talk to the creator of the dashboard. If you don't know who that is ask helpdesk@wisegroup.co.nz - they can track them down.
